This class takes a loose and expressive approach to the soy wax layering technique. We use an intuitive approach to painting using wax resist techniques and progressive application of layers of wax and transparent dyes. Students may use impressionistic brush marks, making representative paintings as well as exploring free abstract expressionistic imagery in modern batik. Techniques include the use of thickened dyes, stamping wax, and brushy painterly applications of dye and wax. Silk is tightly suspended on a PVC-type frame to allow control of the flow of dye. Students are encouraged to be free and spontaneous, having fun exploring color with luminous dyes on silk.
$30 supply fees payable at the first class to the instructor. Students should bring disposable gloves and paper towels. Instuctor will provide dyes, frames brushes ,wax pots and one silk scarf 22"" x22"".Students will do more than one scarf and additional scarves are $8-15.00 depending on size and silk type.
