Adult. This course is designed as a project-based class focused on the construction of a functional and aesthetically pleasing table, emphasizing traditional joinery techniques. The project will predominantly feature mortise and tenon joinery, with a combination of machine work and hand finishing. Over the 10-week session, students will learn and implement each step of the process, from creating and finishing mortices and tenons to tapering the legs, preparing and finishing the tabletop, and ultimately assembling the complete table. All tools and materials necessary for the project will be provided. Prospective students must have completed at least one hand tool class prior to enrolling.
Throughout the course, instruction will be delivered in a step-by-step manner, guiding students through each phase of the project to develop both their technical skills and understanding of traditional woodworking techniques. Materials will be pre-dimensioned to facilitate both machine processing and hand finishing. A materials fee of $70 will be due to the instructor at the start of class.
