Grade 9 - Adult. Step into the heart of Korean tradition with Carol’s immersive cooking class centered around Tteokguk (??)—a beloved Korean rice cake soup. This hands-on experience offers more than just a recipe; it’s a cultural journey into one of Korea’s most symbolic and celebratory dishes.
In this engaging and interactive class, you’ll learn how to prepare Tteokguk from start to finish. Beginning with the foundations, Carol will guide you through crafting the perfect broth. You'll discover how to properly soak the rice cakes for delicious chewiness and incorporate classic garnishes such as scallions, eggs, and toasted seaweed.
But this class is more than just culinary instruction. You'll also explore the deep cultural significance of Tteokguk, especially its role in Korean Lunar New Year traditions. You'll gain insight into how this warm, comforting soup symbolizes renewal, aging a year, and the welcoming of good fortune.
Throughout the session, you'll be fully involved—chopping, stirring, seasoning, and assembling your dish alongside fellow participants. And when the cooking is complete, you'll get to enjoy the fruits of your labor, sharing a bowl of Tteokguk in the spirit of Korean hospitality and celebration.
