The Ashburton River Trail Marathon, scheduled for February 6th of March to the 7th of March 2025, in Ashburton, New Zealand, offers participants a scenic and varied course along the Ashburton River Trail. Sections of this track are winding and undulating creating a challenging race trail. Participants will mostly be under the canopy of the river's trees, providing protection from the elements.
The event features three main races:
- 5 km Walk/Run (Friday 6:00pm): This course is winding and undulating designed to be enjoyable for both serious runners/walkers and those seeking a more relaxed experience. This event includes a Corporate Challenge. A great chance for team bonding and some friendly competition!
- 10 km Run (Saturday 8:30am): The 10 km course extends the 5km loop to the Mania-o-roto Scout Park area. Runners will experience a mix of river trails, offering a diverse running experience.
- 21 km Half Marathon (Saturday 8:30am): The half marathon course continues beyond the 10 km route, reaching Cochranes Road before proceeding down Beach Road, and re-entering the river track at Trevors Road. This track combines river trails with road sections for a comprehensive half marathon experience.
All races start and finish at the Allenton Rugby Football Club grounds on Melrose Road, providing ample parking and facilities for participants and spectators. Food and beverages will be available to purchase during and after the events.
Event details and schedule
Friday 6th of March; 5 km Individual/Team events starts at 6.00pm.
Saturday 7th of March; 21km event will start at 8.30am, closely followed by the 10km participants.
Registration packs can be collected from the Allenton Rugby Football Clubrooms (21 Melrosr Road) on Thursday the 5th of March 5-7pm, Friday 12-2pm or early Saturday morning before the briefing at 8.15am.
Safe, off street parking is available at the Allenton Rugby Club and over night motorhome/caravan facilities are vailbale for members at the neighbouring NZMCA camp.
