A one-hour lecture will introduce fundamentals of decorating for soda firing including glazing, flashing slips for clay body color, wadding pots, and use of underglazes and slips. Students will be shown the soda kilns, and how placement in the kiln can affect surfaces and glaze color. After the lecture students are given hands on assistance while glazing and preparing their pots for the soda fire.
