About this event

Youth ages 13–14 must paddle with a guardian, or guardian-approved adult, in a tandem kayak. About the Event The Westside Chattahoochee Paddle is an 11-mile guided kayaking tour along the “West Atlanta” stretch of the Chattahoochee River Water Trail. Though often overlooked by locals, this section of the river is rich in scenic beauty and cultural history. This year’s journey includes a special stop at the historic Chattahoochee Brick Company (CBC) site, a place tied to one of Atlanta’s most tragic legacies, where African American inmates were forced to labor under conditions akin to slavery. Participants won’t just paddle the river; they’ll immerse themselves in a river of history, community, culture, and fun. *Note that this is a full-day event from 9a-5p. We’ll provide lunch, but participants will be expected to bring their own breakfast. We will be paddling together for about 4-5 hours. Day Schedule (Tentative) 9a: Trip Orientation & Travel to Chattahoochee Brick Company (CBC) Site 10a:Educational Tour at CBC Site 11a: Paddle Safety Talk & On-Land Kayak Instruction 12p: Paddlers Launch into River 2:30p: Lunch @ Buzzard Roost Island 4:30p: Arrive at Takeout Ramp 5p: Trip Closing Participation Requirements * At minimum, participants must be able to tread water. * Ability to swim is not required, however, we will get wet.
