BBAC VISITING ARTIST WORKSHOP SERIES
Contour Drawing: 2-Day Workshop
Instructor: Armin Mersmann
Contour drawing is an essential technique in art because it is a strong foundation for any drawing or painting. Contour drawing is a drawing technique whereby the artist outlines the shape and mass of an object or subject. The main details and features are outlined, but small details and value transitions are omitted. In a contour drawing, the artist aims to represent the contours and edges of the form accurately, without portraying volume or depth, by shading the light and shadows. The primary goal of this workshop is to use thick, thin, lost, and found lines. There are five types of contour drawing; in this ten-hour, two-day class, you will work with blind contour, closed counter, and if there is time, open contour drawings. You will also see samples of cross-contour and shaded contour drawings.
