Description
The French Library is pleased to welcome the cast and creative team behind Contre-Temps, a new French musical based on the life of François Courdot, a brilliant but forgotten composer who dreamed of conquering Broadway. Performers Marion Préïté and Marion Rybaka, along with pianist Julien Mouchel, will offer an exclusive preview featuring live musical excerpts and behind-the-scenes insights into the making of this theatrical production. The conversation will be moderated by Michael Wartofsky, professor at Berklee College of Music. This preview at the French Library is co-organized with The French Theater Project ahead of the full performances at the Huntington Theatre from May 9–11, 2025.Contre-Temps tells the untold story of François Courdot (1919–1968), a whimsical and unconventional composer whose work bridged French operetta and American jazz. This joyful musical biopic is a vibrant dive into 20th-century musical theater, blending historical arias, jazz, and original compositions.
