Join Michael E. Vermette for a painting journey that explores painting in the oil painting medium the human figure in the landscape. Students will use five approaches and various different techniques in oil painting to depict interesting characters in the natural environment. Michael will demonstrate his method of painting impasto in the Venetian/Italian style as well as other techniques using brush and palette knife. You will learn to paint figurative subjects in a natural and interior setting. Participants will learn different approaches that will allow the spontaneity of lost and found edges, yet still being in control of the medium, give you a solid foundation in compositional proportions and lifelike representation. Michael will demonstrate and hold group critiques each week and put you at ease with his approachable teaching style as he reveals how painters in history used various different brush and palette knife techniques to create effective results. No previous experience is needed for this class however the experienced artists will benefit as well with Michael’s inclusive and open style of teaching. You will need up to 12 sub straights such as Stretched canvas, boards, Masonite or wood panels, or stretched canvases. Recommended maximum size 8 in. x 10 in. or 11 in. x 14 in. No larger than 18 x 24 inches., [not much larger for in-class studies] and bring a minimum of 1 substrate surfaces per class and one for out-of-class assignments, mere size is depending on personal preference and goals. 2.
