About this event

Get ready to rant and rave! A good film has the ability to not just entertain, but inform, inspire, and captivate. A bad film can also be entertaining, but for very different reasons. Audiences are drawn in by developed characters, rich narratives, or just cool stuff that blows up. The average moviegoer loses themselves in the alternate reality that comes to life when the lights go down. Critics do not. Critics are not merely watching a puppet show, but observing the pulling of every string. From the soundtrack to the lighting, from the cinematography to the costumes, and, of course, the acting and writing, each component of a film adds to its success or failure. Did Ryan Reynolds mean to use the same style of music for the soundtrack of The Adam Project as was used in Guardians of the Galaxy? Did he want it to feel like a watered-down version complete with the same love interest and emotional conflict for the protagonist? Questions like this need answers! Members of the Film Critics’ Club will join us for film screenings, followed by a thoughtful discussion of each film’s merits. Critics will then write their own glowing or scathing reviews of the films, creating their own, curated guide to some of the summers’ first movies. Popcorn included.
