Master Maine Guide Alice Bean Andrenyak provides a safe, non-threatening environment (no live ammunition present) for women to learn the basics of handgun safety in this nationally rated two-week course. Topics covered: how to handle a pistol safely; parts of a pistol and ammunition; fundamentals of pistol shooting including holding, stance, and aiming; managing common malfunctions; cleaning; and selecting a pistol just right for you. An optional, semi-private, two-hour shooting range lesson is arranged with the instructor for a separate cost ($60) and time. There you’ll try to put 5 rounds of ammunition through 4 separate target circles from 10 feet away using only 20 rounds with either your own pistol and ammunition (bring 50 rounds) or ones “rented” from the instructor ($25). To pass and get the certification required to apply for a Concealed Carry Permit you must: attend and actively participate in all sessions; pass a written examination; and pass the ten-foot shooting qualification within two weeks of the last class session.
