This is the first part of a two-semester course. Students will gain foundational knowledge of the following: basic principles of cosmetology including safety and sanitation, infection control, diseases and disorders of the hair, skin, and nails, styling, cutting, chemical texturizing and color theory and application. This course will also focus on building soft skills essential to success in a professional salon environment. It is a theory-based class to prepare students for the Virginia State Board written exam. Students will be required to complete an apprenticeship of 36 hours a week for a total of 3,000 hours in a salon. Books and supplies included. National certification testing fees are the student's responsibility.
