Digital Marketing and Social Media for Small Business Owners
Wednesdays 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Led by Tara Shedor, M.A., this course will guide you through developing a simple social media marketing plan for a new business or refresh the plan of an existing business. Each session will involve an overview of a tool with the basics in how to use it and apply it to your marketing goals. The course will cover:
1. Creating or revamping your social media pages to establish a social media presence (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn are covered)
2. Creating graphic, video, and audio marketing content for free using Canva
3. Discovering how to create high-impact and viral social media content by mobilizing your own business story and call to action
4. Social media ads and brand ambassadors

Requirements for participants: Laptop with internet capabilities (WiFi will be provided) for following along during class
About the Instructor:
Tara has more than 10 years of experience working in marketing in the non-profit and education sectors including her previous role serving as Director of Communications for It Takes a Village Family of Schools in Chicago. In her current position as Assistant Director for Marketing and Communications at the COPD Foundation, Tara leads content strategy and dissemination of e-newsletters and social media channels reaching an audience of more than 125,000. She leads global digital marketing for healthcare initiatives such as World Oxygen Day (which focuses on medical oxygen awareness) and Lace Up for Lungs (which focuses on exercise and lung health). Before graduating with her master's in communication, media, and theatre from Northeastern Illinois University in 2018, Tara served as Station Manager at the university radio station, Social Justice and Diversity Coordinator for the Northeastern Programming Board, and as a Graduate Assistant for Marketing and Recruitment for Northeastern Nontraditional Degree Programs.
