PAINTING WITH WAX! $15 LAB FEE DUE AT FIRST CLASS Class Description Layers, Textures, and Design is an 8-week wax and mixed media art class for adult beginner and intermediate artists, focused on exploring encaustic painting (hot beeswax with damar resin) and cold wax and techniques. Each session introduces new tools and concepts such as layering, collage, texture building, color harmony, and mark-making. Students will experiment with oil paints, encaustics, cold wax mediums, and various materials like paper, fabric, and stencils to create richly textured compositions. The course encourages both structured technique and creative experimentation, culminating in a final critique and celebration of creative growth. Materials Needed for Cold Wax: Oil paints Cold wax medium (Starter supply will be available) Brushes Palette knives Canvas or board 14 x 17 Mix Media Artist Pad Materials Needed for Encaustic: One bag of R & F Clear Encaustic Medium or Enkaustiko brand Cold wax medium (Starter supply will be available) If you cannot get that, some will be available for $15.00 per half lb. cash at the first class only. Heat Gun/Embossing gun - about $25.00 online (Blick might have in stock at store.) An R & F encaustic starter kit Item #:01101-1014 online for about $85.00. (Blick might have in stock at store.) OR at the very least: one pound bag of clear encaustic medium, one white cake of wax and one cake of colored wax, two hake brushes, three encaustic boards (or similar), a pan for wax.
