NO CLASS SEPTEMBER 9TH.


Whether you have never picked up a brush or have years of experience painting - a passion for portraiture is the only prerequisite. Students will explore the medium of oil paint, learning about materials and techniques through the lens of portrait painting from life. Each week will include a demo and discussion as well as individual feedback while students work on their own paintings. We will cover basic fundamentals such as anatomy, perspective, value, color, light & more. This course is designed with students of all levels in mind, but some experience in drawing is encouraged.
MATERIALS:

Surfaces:
- Canvas, linen, or oil paper - size 8x10, 9x12, or 11x14

Paints:
- Titanium White
- Cadmium Yellow
- Yellow Ochre
- Cadmium Red
- Alizarin Crimson
- Transparent Red Oxide
- Raw Umber
- Ultramarine Blue
- Ivory Black

Brushes:
- Assortment of bristle flats ( medium to large)
- Synthetic filberts (small to medium)
- Synthetic rounds ( 1 small, for drawing with & 1 medium)

Solvent:
- Odorless mineral spirits (like gamsol)

Palette:
- Glass, wood or paper palette
