During the Revolutionary War, the Continental Army faced not only the British but also unrest within its own ranks. More than 50 mutinies broke out as soldiers struggled with hunger, poor supplies, and long-delayed wages. In this program, we’ll look at the root causes of these uprisings and take a closer look at two of the most significant: the Pennsylvania Line Mutiny of 1781 and the officers’ mutiny at Newburgh, New York, in 1783—moments that nearly unraveled the fight for independence.
