About this event

10 sessions x 90 minutes Wednesday - March 5, 12, 19, 26 | April 2, 16, 23, 30 | May 7, 14 This engaging course introduces students to the important component of persuasive reading and writing where students begin to put their views into action. Fun activities and hands-on lessons teach the mechanics of opinion writing, so students learn how to express their ideas in simple yet convincing ways. Students explore how authors use emotions, logic, and evidence to persuade readers to accept their argument. Instructors practice confidence techniques with examples to introduce students to understanding their thoughts through drawing, writing, and group discussions. Key concepts include introduction to persuasion, opinions vs. facts, and understanding audience reactions. Students have the opportunity to express their thoughts in both written and illustrated formats, to help them understand how to persuade their readers effectively. The course concludes with a celebration to showcase their newly developed skills by sharing their persuasive ideas with their classmates and getting positive feedback. To keep the students engaged and energized, there will be a break in every class where students will participate in fun activities like stretching and music. Persuasive Reading Comprehension and Writing will empower students to : • Express their opinions in a simple and convincing way using drawings and writing techniques. • Learn how to structure and present logical arguments with evidence that are both convincing and compelling to win arguments. • Build confidence in speaking and sharing their ideas with others. • Understand how writers convince and entertain their audience to get their point across. Note: We love to keep parents updated on the class progress. We have established three key communication points: a teacher introduction to start the semester, a midpoint update featuring progress and activity photos, and a final email summarizing the semester.
