The 1950s transformed how people lived, moved, and worked in the Baltimore region. From the postwar challenge of absorbing returning veterans and growing families to the rise of highways, fast food, and suburban life, the city in 1959 looked vastly different from 1950. The “Red Scare” hit home, labor strikes reshaped industries, and pop culture brought hula hoops and poodle skirts into everyday life. It's a decade many remember—but few realize how deeply it shaped Baltimore’s future. Presented by local historian and author, Jack Burkert.
