Indigenous Peoples of Howard County
Well before European settlers came to this area, Indigenous People had long established a presence. Eventually pushed to the west and north as settlers took their lands and spread diseases to which they had no immunity, the Piscataway and Susquehannock tribes visited the Patapsco Valley often to hunt, fish, and collect minerals such as feldspar and quartz. Learn about their lifestyles from the past, their status in Maryland today, and see artifacts collected locally as a part of the Historical Society collections.
