Arguably Bizet's most popular opera, and one of the most famous in the world, Carmen relates the tragic tale of a French army soldier (Don Jose) based in Seville, Spain who falls hopelessly in love with the free-living, libertine gypsy woman, Carmen. The ultimate tease, Carmen seduces Don Jose, enticing him away from his home-town love, Micaela. Sadly, after Carmen dumps Don Jose in favor of the local toreador superstar, Don Jose becomes hurt and enraged; things do not end well for Carmen - nor for Don Jose.
