About this event
Description
Opera Viewing and Discussion: "William Tell" by Giacomo Rossini William Tell (or "Guglielmo Tell" in Italian) was Rossini's magnum opus, his final opera premiered in 1829. This wondrous opera conveys the power and majesty of early 14th century Switzerland and their struggle and success overcoming their tyrannical Austrian Habsburg rulers. The singers are master bel canto performers. We'll enjoy a breathtaking rendition of the most famous overture in the world, and witness the well known "shooting an apple off Tell's son's head" - a very moving part of the opera. The finale is powerful, beautiful, and inspirational as the Swiss people celebrate their victory. Duration: 4 hours, with 1-2 intermissions. Host: Sam Stern Fitness Center ClassroomAge Group/Camp
