With a new generation of composers such as Elton John, Stephen Sondheim, and Andrew Lloyd Webber audiences flocked to theaters in record numbers to embrace mega-musicals such as Phantom of the Opera. Also popular were tributes to earlier musical styles of the 20s thru 40s and so-called “jukebox musicals” such as Smokey Joe’s Café that featured the hits of Leiber & Stoller. A show from this period needed more than 1,000 performances to rank in the Top 100. Host: Hugo Keesing, Retired Professor, University of MarylandFor information/register please call 410-313-1400.
