About this event
Watercolor flower portraits are delicate, expressive studies that capture the beauty and individuality of floral subjects through close observation. Students will focus on painting simple yet realistic portraits of flowers, beginning with a detailed exploration of petals and leaves to understand their structure, light, and form. Emphasis will be placed on mastering essential watercolor techniques, including brush loading, wet-on-wet blending, and subtle shading to create depth and volume. Special attention will be given to rendering white-on-white flowers—an exercise in restraint and sensitivity—as students learn to define shape through shadow rather than outline. Composition and placement will also play a key role, with guidance on how to thoughtfully frame each flower on the page for both balance and impact. This course is ideal for those seeking to refine their observational skills and watercolor technique while developing a personal, expressive approach to botanical painting. The supply list is posted on our website www.ellsworth.maineadulted.org. Make-up date, if needed, 4/14/2026.
