Description
Don't move! Not you-- that bowl of fruit. Produce of all types, from apples and pears to cucumbers and cauliflower have long been the subjects of still life paintings. This class will explore how light and color shape the world and everything in it while helping you develop your skills and voice as you paint everyday objects.
Topics Covered
Topics in this class will include preliminary sketching, composition planning, and lighting. Emphasis will be placed on using the elements and principles of design to express your individual ideas. Painting techniques will be explored to give you the skills for achieving elements such as value, texture, and form. Proportion and perspective basics will be introduced to help you achieve a natural illusion of objects and their space. An introduction to still life artists and their works (abstracted and highly realistic) will be shown as a source of inspiration. You may choose to work as abstractly or realistically as you like! You may choose to paint in acrylic or oil. Instruction will include lectures, demonstrations, and individual guidance by the instructor.
