Structure of class

Produce functional or sculptural forms using the building technique of coils. Coiling involves the rolling out of clay into a long thin snake-like form that is wound round like a spring. Building a vessel with coils is accomplished by placing them around the circumference and gradually increasing the height/width. Coils can be left exposed for a bumpy surface, blended for a smooth surface, textured, or a combination of all those! You can make functional pieces such as cups and bowls, or coil larger for vases or pots. During your class your instructor might discuss making templates to help create more uniform pieces. Coils can also be used to make sculptural forms! The possibilities are endless!
