About this event
Six IN-PERSON Sessions January 12, 26, February 2, 9, 16, 23 (Note that classes do not meet January 19 due to the MLK, Jr. Holiday.) This course, held in a seminar setting, is designed to give participants both an historical and a theoretical framework for understanding the relationship between human creativity and healing. Participants will develop a personal creative practice. Participants will also articulate, through both written and spoken assignments, their individual personal creative process. The course includes art modality activities, readings, and blogs. Barbara Steinhaus’ passion is music, and she thrives on exploring ways it positively impacts human wellbeing. As a professional soprano, Barbara has performed Western classical music, spirituals, and American popular music; and earned a Doctorate in Musical Arts from the University of Georgia. Though serving as Chair of the Department of Music for 17 years at Brenau University, she continues now as a faculty member teaching Applied Voice, Opera Workshop, Vocal Pedagogy, and Intro to Arts in Health Care. By completing training in Therapeutic Music and Arts in Medicine, Barbara has developed skills that address two critical health care problems: isolation and cost. She uses this training as a Live Therapeutic Musician for Northeast Georgia Health System, and as a co-Principle Investigator for the Art Museums and Community Wellness Research Study with the High Museum of Art.
