About this event
Six IN-PERSON Sessions September 18, Sep 25, October 2, 16, 23, 30 This course will survey the opening two hundred years of the Jesus movement, during which the Galilean ministry of a deeply spiritual man "full of God" morphed into the major religious and cultural force in the Mediterranean world of the Roman Empire. The movement he spawned cannot historically be called Christianity until approximately the second century CE. Those two hundred years are replete with history and intriguing social and religious unknowns. Bob Maddox has spent most of his career as a Baptist and United Church of Christ minister. He was Executive Director of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State and White House Speechwriter for President Carter. He holds the Doctor of Sacred Theology from Emory University. He has written eight books. For decades he has concentrated on the development of early Christianity and especially on the study of the historical Jesus.
