About this event
Participants will employ printmaking techniques to produce watercolor collages, including prints suitable for framing, postcards, or greeting cards. (Some class time will be spent discussing how to have artwork reproduced online.) In addition, we’ll explore the creative process to free ourselves from the constraints that limit us as artists. Printmaking with watercolors is an exciting and dynamic art form. Using a variety of surfaces, including gel plates, cardboard, wood, or plastic to produce interesting watercolors is exciting and unpredictable. That unpredictability is where the creative process comes in. Responding to what happens in every step of the process, rather than trying to control every aspect, is where we experience ourselves as co-creators rather than the sole creators of our art. This process requires us to take risks, venture into the unknown, and play. The only requirements for this class are an open mind and a willingness to play! Whether you consider yourself an experienced or a beginning artist, this class offers something for you. NOTE: Students from previous classes will find watercolor collage an exciting expansion on that work. Examples of the instructor’s work can be found at: www.chrisnewcombart.com. $10 material fee payable to instructor. Students will need their own watercolors, brushes, and watercolor paper. Chris studied both art and education at East Carolina University, receiving his BFA in the late 70s. He’s worked in a variety of media, including clay, cartooning, steel, video production, and watercolor monoprints. 5 classes, Tuesdays, 9/23-10/21, 6:30pm-8:30pm, GMS, $105
