In this 4-week workshop, students will dive into the specialized techniques needed to paint lifelike animals—capturing not just their features, but their energy and spirit. Through focused exercises and a complete portrait project, we’ll explore how to render fur, feathers, and facial details using expressive brushwork and layering. Students will practice proportion and anatomy to ensure accuracy, while also learning how to use contrast, color temperature, and edge control to create depth and movement in their work. From household pets to wild creatures, this course will give artists the tools and confidence to portray animals with personality and realism. In This Class, Students Will: -Study animal anatomy and proportion for more accurate portraits -Learn how to suggest fur, feathers, and other textures through brush technique -Use contrast and color mixing to create dimension and expression -Capture a sense of movement and life in a static image -Work with layered oil techniques to build depth and realism -Complete a finished animal portrait from initial sketch to final glaze This course is designed for students who have experience with oil painting and are ready to challenge themselves with more advanced techniques and subject matter.
