Description
Healing through clay: Ceramic workshops for Rheumatic patients in Iowa City This workshop series is designed to support individuals in Iowa City living with rheumatic diseases. These chronic conditions -most common in females- can cause joint pain, stiffness, fatigue and emotional distress. Many patients experience isolation and stigma while coping with the burdens of their fluctuating physical symptom. This project uses ceramics as both art and occupational therapy, offering a gentle, creative way to improve joint mobility and mental well-being. Participants will engage in a supportive environment where they can connect with others, share experiences and build a sense of community. Through personalized guidance in bi-monthly two-hour sessions, participants will explore their creativity and develop ceramic pieces that reflect their journey. The program culminates in a public exhibition of their work, where family, friends and public are invited to celebrate their accomplishments and gain awareness of rheumatic conditions.
