Description
The Iowa City New Horizons Band is celebrating its 30th Anniversary, with conductor Dr. Cory Schmitt (UI School of Music). It will have several special performances: May 6, 2PM, at Iowa City Senior Center (ICSC) Assembly Room, and May 10, 2PM, at Voxman Concert Hall (93 E. Burlington St.). Dr. Schmitt has the band performing six stimulating songs, including An American Portrait by Lewis Buckley, featuring soloist Matt Dulas (MA in Euphonium Performance). Mr. Dulas will give an exciting experience you will never forget. For the first time, the Voices of Experience and the New Horizons Band will perform together on the Battle Hymn of the Republic, certainly a premiere to attend. Assistant director Emma Dickinson will conduct Mt. Everest by Rossano Galante, and Golden Jubilee by John Phillip Sousa; two challenging and fun-to-listen-to songs. In addition, there will be performances by the Iowa City NHB flute ensemble and brass ensemble, plus the old Post Office Brass, on May 1, 2pm, at SC Assembly Hall. There will be a live feed available for the SC concerts. All concerts are FREE, and we welcome new members at any time. Our summer session begins practice on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
