This course is an introduction to basic woodcarving. In this class you will design and carve a traditional folk art style wall hanging and candle holder out of softwood using a variety of wood carving tools. This workshop will cover preparation of materials, safe hand tool use and simple and effective finishing techniques. We will also spend time discussing wood and its properties so you can learn more about the meditative practice of low-relief carving. In this course, students will finish at least one hand-carved wall hanging. The art is finished with wax and sawtooth hook installed for easy hanging. Students will also have an opportunity to carve a four-sided pillar candle holder. Students under 18 may attend with parental permission.
