About this event
High school students in grades 9-12 are invited to join us on Saturday, December 6, for a day of learning and service at the Jacksonville Humane Society! Participants will learn about animal sheltering, how the Five Freedoms of animal welfare shape animal care, and what dogs and cats go through while living in a shelter environment. Service projects may include: - creating enrichment items for the pets such as dog treats, food puzzles, cat toys, and more - stuffing envelopes with thank you letters to donors - making heating pads for neonatal kittens and surgery patients - folding laundry - reading to the pets to help them feel more relaxed in their kennels In addition to completing a variety of service projects, participants will have the opportunity to meet and interact with a JHS dog and JHS kittens or cats. All participants will be awarded 4 community service hours at the end of the day. Drop-off is from 10:45 - 11:00 a.m. and pickup is from 3:00 - 3:15 p.m. If your child will be driving themselves to/from JHS, please indicate so when registering. A Papa John's pizza lunch will be provided to all participants. What to bring: -water bottle -a love of pets! What to wear: -comfortable clothing that can get messy -closed-toe shoes that cover the foot completely
