“Protest in America: Why It Mattered Then—and Why It Still Matters Now”

Historian Dr. Patricia Schechter (Portland State University) explores how protest movements, from abolition to civil rights, women’s liberation, and beyond have shaped American society. This session highlights how social change happens, examines recent movements and new ways voices are heard, and reflects on protest’s ongoing role in a healthy democracy.
