Have you ever been to the world famous Alcatraz Island?Let's ESCAPE from the Livermore heat on July 23rd to go to PRISON in the Bay for the day!We will cross the bridge in motorcoach style with LARPD to board the ferry from Pier 33, then cruise over to the landing dock on Alcatraz Island.There, you'll have nearly 3 hours to step back in time to experience the legendary Island that has served as a civil War fort, a military prison, and one of the most notorious Federal penitentiaries in US history.
Now is your chance to explore the windswept island and learn about its layered history, enjoy the audio tour "Doing time: the Cellhouse Tour" while visiting historic spaces such as Eagle Plaza, the Recreation Yard, the Sallyport and the Rose Garden.
Upon return to shore, we'll take a short walk to Pier 39 to scatter for shopping, playing and late lunch on your own.
*Note* Roads and walkways on the island are steep- elevation change=130 ft. Comfortable walking shoes strongly recommended.

NOTE:- Backpacks ARE allowed and snacks can be packed to eat in designated areas- Physical activity level : moderately high
