About this event
Club Goal: Learn about the impact of “forever chemicals” (PFAS) on the environment and human health, and advocate for the monitoring and reduction of contamination in our communities. Overview: PFAS—per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances—are long-lasting chemicals that pose serious risks to both ecosystems and public health. Though less talked about than microplastics, their persistence in the environment makes them one of today’s most pressing environmental threats. In this club, we’ll explore the effects of PFAS through real-world research and data collection in our local area. You’ll apply what you’ve learned in the classroom to real-life environmental challenges and go a step further by learning to use advanced software tools, such as molecular dynamics visualizers, to study the effects of these chemicals on the human body. Our ultimate goal is to compile and share our findings with local water testing agencies—contributing to meaningful change in our community.
