The Science Bowl aims to promote interest in STEM, strengthen students’ knowledge across scientific disciplines, and foster collaboration through team-based competition. Students compete in teams of 4–5 to answer questions in biology, chemistry, earth and space science, energy, mathematics, and physics. Teams participate in the U.S. Department of Energy National Science Bowl, one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious academic science competitions. The tournament follows a fast-paced, buzzer-based quiz bowl format. The main regional tournament typically takes place on the first Saturday in February, with the possibility of 1–2 additional practice or invitational events during the season. Teams meet weekly for practice sessions when possible. Some light, self-paced independent study is expected, and subject categories are divided among team members based on interest and strengths.
