Science Olympiad offers students the opportunity to deepen their knowledge across a wide range of scientific disciplines—including earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering—while building collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Students compete in small event teams (typically two or three members) that are part of a larger school team. Each event team focuses on a specific topic and prepares to compete in tournaments held from mid-November through late March or early April. Events may involve tests, hands-on experiments, or engineering challenges. Each team is guided by a parent or adult mentor, and parent involvement is essential to the success of the program. The overall school team is supported by parent coaches, who help coordinate preparation and communication for students and families. Our Division B team has consistently earned top placements at both regional and Virginia state competitions in recent years. A tryout test may be held for team selection.
