However, rocks in the Cascade Mountains reveal a complex and intriguing history that spans over 40 million years of time. Current geologic research suggests that our beloved mountains were formed from a series of tectonic fits and starts, a jammed subduction zone, a mysterious tectonic plate, and multiple other exciting geologic upheavals.
