About this event
Travel across the globe without leaving the Curve in A Day in Japan, a one-day workshop for K–2nd grade students led by art teacher Val Smith! Through hands-on art and cooking activities, students will explore the beauty, culture, and creativity of Japan. In the kitchen, students will roll up fun and delicious sushi balls (no raw fish involved!) and bake their own sweet, earthy mini matcha green tea cookies. In the art studio, they'll dive into traditional Japanese printmaking by creating Gyotaku fish paintings and take inspiration from beloved Japanese-American illustrator Gyo Fujikawa as they explore storytelling through art. Blending flavors, colors, and creativity, this workshop is a joyful introduction to Japanese culture and a perfect day of discovery for young artists and chefs alike! **All Friday workshops include a break for lunch and outdoor/indoor play with friends.
