I will teach you the intricacies of the beautiful copperplate hand, focusing on consistent size, shape, slant and spacing of all the letterforms. We will also study the fine art of addressing envelopes. If you are a calligrapher or have beautiful handwriting skills, you have probably been asked to address special occasion envelopes for friends or family. There is an etiquette all its own to this time-honored tradition and is especially valued and appreciated. You will learn how to use templates and make a consistent and eye-catching look to your envelopes, while making them enjoyable to create!Each participant will be charged a $35 fee (paid directly to instructor) for the calligraphy supply kit which will include: a bottle of ink, an oblique pen holder and nibs, an 8x10” gridded practice pad and a selection of different sized envelopes. If you already own many of these supplies, whatever you'll need for the workshop will be pro-rated. In addition to the supply kit, you’ll need to bring a mechanical pencil, eraser, ruler, a small water container, paper towels, and if you have it: a portable light box.  Always helpful! If you have any particular brands of inks, watercolors or gouache you’d like to use, please feel free to bring those as well. All levels of students are welcome to join this workshop, including those just beginning their study of calligraphy.‍
