In this class we will discuss an introduction to forms, shapes, edges and tonal ranges to create the illusion of depth and light in a watercolor painting. After practicing the process we will put them together to create emotional, impactful paintings or studies using a choice of subjects ranging from a rural landscape, to a street scene. This class focuses on giving students a thoughtful approach to the medium of watercolor through working from reference photographs and/or painting from sketches. It will include discussions on: 1. watercolor materials 2. color mixing 3. Drawing 4. brush strokes and basic washes and painting methods in watercolor (wet into wet, dry brush and glazing) 5. composition and design Classes will include instructor demonstrations and exercises. There will also be optional weekly homework exercises.
