About this event
Suitable for all skill levels, provide hands-on instruction in design, cutting, placement, and gluing of mosaic/collage pieces. This workshop differs from the traditional glass-based mosaic course, in that we will explore the concept of mosaic as metaphor and experiential process comprised of interconnected parts contributing to a larger whole. As a framework viewing identity, culture, and even life itself, we will begin within a structural framework, a black & white linear map of a New Orleans. Relying on personal experiences, perspectives and expression, participants will investigate shape, color and texture, collage and found objects as a means to understanding organizational structures. The process focuses on the idea that while each individual element is unique, their combination creates something richer and more complex than the sum of its parts. The goal is to realize and build a dynamic composition richer and more complex than the sum of its parts, emphasizing empathy, resilience, and community.
