In this class students will learn how to create a three dimensional representation of an animal of their choice. First students will think about what elements are necessary to depict their animal. We will look at various sculpture compositions and how much of the animal will be depicted in order for the animal's essence to be represented. Students will use artistic license to create a variety of compositions. As a class we will discuss what compositions are the most compelling. Wire will be used to create the rough skeletal structure of the animal allowing students to determine their sculpture's size and take their 2-D idea and transform it into a 3-D sculpture. Teamwork with another class mate will be used while building their 3-d structure with wire. The skeletal structure will then be filled with balloons, cardboard, plastic bottles in order for the skeletal structure to have “muscle” for the paper mache to rest on. The Paper Mache will add the skin to the 3D structure. Once the skeletal structure is complete students will use paint and other materials - feathers, yarn, (or any other materials brought in from home) to create their animal likeness.
