Pre-requisites: Beginning Drawing This drawing course focuses on using vine charcoal in observational drawing of objects from life and urban landscape from photographs. Through a series of exercises students will become familiar with fundamental techniques necessary to translate values and textures of forms and spaces to a two-dimensional surface, and to create dramatic drawings from their own photo references. Special attention is paid to building effective composition and mood. 18”x24” Strathmore 500 Series White charcoal drawing pad, medium or soft vine charcoal in assortment of sizes (jumbo, thick, medium), one black charcoal pencil (medium hardness), one white charcoal pencil, kneaded eraser, gray or tan toned paper (will discuss in class), glassine or tracing paper to cover your finished drawing (optional), spray fixative for dry media (optional, Sennelier Latour or Delacroix recommended), blending stick or paper towel or Kleenex (all optional)
