About this event
3 Wednesdays, October 1 - 15, 1:00 - 3:00 pm Adventures in Collage Taught by Mary Jane Arden $37 Member / $41 Non-member If you can use scissors, you can collage! Collage is a dynamic and expressive art form that utilizes everyday, affordable materials. In this interactive three-session workshop, students will explore and practice essential collage techniques. Each session will begin with a mini art history lesson - introducing participants to influential collage artists, both historical and contemporary, such as Mary Delany, Henri Matisse, and Lynne Perrella. The majority of the class time will be dedicated to creating an in-class collage project. Additionally, students will receive a weekly handout summarizing key takeaways from the session and providing guidance for an at-home collage project to further their practice. At the end of the course students will have created three original collages to take home and enjoy! Students provide: Sharp scissors, X-acto knife, ruler, mixed media pad of paper (like Strathmore 400 series 11 x 14), cardboard or a small self-healing sewing mat to cut on, 2-4 high-quality magazines (like Nat Geo) glue sticks (Elmers Purple School is preferred-at least 3) The Newark Arts Alliance will retain a $5 cancellation fee if a student withdraws from a class. After earning my BFA from the University of Delaware, I spent my career as an exhibit designer at a local museum and a graphic designer in higher education. In addition to my full-time career I taught User Centered Design at Wilmington University and Graphic Design, Computer Graphics and Drawing courses at Delaware Technical Community College. These days I have two artistic practices: fabricating primitive sculptures and creating collages.
