About this event
5 Wednesdays, July 2 - 30, 4:30 - 7:30 pm Cyanotype and Anthotype Printing Taught by Courtney Christensen, 15+ $183 Members / $201 Non-member Cyanotype and anthotype printing are alternative photographic processes that use sunlight to create contact prints on materials such as paper, glass, and fabric. This five week workshop will introduce beginner students to cyanotype and anthotype print making in an accessible and affordable way. Each session will include a brief history of alternative photographic processes, instruction in printing techniques, and hands-on print creation. Students will experiment with transparency negatives and assorted natural and man-made objects, as well as various natural pigments, in order to create photograms. In addition to in-class printing, students will also be given supplies each week to take home for continued practice. Students will provide an apron or clothes appropriate for print-making with chemicals, and a large seal-able box/bag to hold light sensitive papers. The Newark Arts Alliance will retain a $5 cancellation fee if a student withdraws from a class. Courtney grew up in the mountains of northern Utah and found a love of arts and crafts at an early age. After receiving an Anthropology B.A. at Utah State University, she spent three years in Japan, where she had the chance to study traditional folk arts such as kogin-zashi in the Japanese countryside. Besides embroidery, Courtney spends her time writing, painting, and creating cyanotype and anthotype contact prints. Her work was featured in the Cache Center for the Arts Gallery Walk in Fall 2024.
