The high school keelboat team is for sailors looking to build experience racing on mid-sized keelboats with spinnakers. The main focus will be on around the buoy racing and performance sailing. We will spend about 50% of our time on spinnaker work. Youth sailing is not segregated by gender, but the championship event for high school keelboat sailing is a 'mixed' event, meaning we will need to have at least one male and one female sailor on the team at that event. For the spring season we are going to open the team up to more sailors with the goal of getting two boats sailing and racing during practice. If we have more sailors than spots on this team preference will be given to sailors who are on the high school sailing team and/or that have attended keelboat camps. That being said, being on both the keelboat team and the high school sailing team is a BIG commitment and sailors should consider this before signing up for both. The rewards can be large as sailing on larger boats deepens your understanding of many concepts including sail trim and the importance of communication. Practices will be Mondays at 3:30-6:30pm.
