About this event
Why do we collect? And how can the objects we keep spark memories, stories, and connection? In this special family program, created with artist and filmmaker Jessica Oreck and her magical Office of Collecting and Design, we’ll explore how arranging meaningful objects can spark memories and stories. The Office of Collecting is part museum, part library, and part memory portal—a place brimming with tiny treasures and forgotten fragments. Picture candy jars of buttons, stubby pencils, and marbles, drawers filled with empty matchbooks, miniature sunglasses, and even glass eyeballs—each one holding the seed of a story. Bring your own collection of tiny treasures—or choose from two giant tubs of special assortments from the Office’s wondrous archives—and work together as a family to create a flatlay: a carefully arranged photograph taken from directly above. Guided by Jessica, you’ll curate, arrange, and document your collection. You’ll leave with an instant film print that is utterly unique and personal—a family keepsake of your own. Family groups must have at least one adult participant, and up to four children per group. Family groups can have up to 5 participants per registration. Workshops are recommended for children ages 7 and up.
