Description
Outdoor Exploration will actively engage students in a variety of interdisciplinary, inquiry-based projects. Students will have opportunities to engage in hands on activities and participate in outdoor field experiences to support their learning journey.
These non-credit BC Ministry of Education courses include Core Competencies, Big Ideas and Curricular Competencies along with Aboriginal perspectives and knowledge.
Prerequisite: Currently attending Grade K to 6 at a BC public/private school.
(1) ELIGIBILITY
Students currently attending Kindergarten to Grade 6 at a BC public/private school may register for one (1) enrichment course and/or one or more fee-based camps.(2) PERSONAL EDUCATION NUMBER (PEN)Students will need to have their nine-digit Personal Education Number ready to register for Summer Learning. PEN can be obtained from students' report card or their current school of attendance.
(3) COURSE REGISTRATION FEESCourse registration fees are charged based on a student's status in Canada at the time of registration. No refund of fees will be provided should a student's status change between the time of registration and course start.
(4) STUDENTS ATTENDING A PUBLIC SCHOOL OUTSIDE OF RICHMOND OR A PRIVATE SCHOOL WITHIN BCStudents who attend a public school outside of Richmond OR a private school within BC will be requested to provide the following documentation by e-mail to rce@sd38.bc.ca (e.g. residency and status in Canada) after having successfully registered for a course to verify that they can take summer learning tuition-free. If preferred, documents may be presented in person at our Continuing Education Office (12091 Cambie Road).- Student's proof of status in Canada - Canadian birth certificate or passport; PR card; valid study permit or visitor record; and- Parent's proof of status in Canada - Canadian birth certificate or passport; PR card; valid work permit and BC employment letter with two current paystubs; valid study permit; and- Parent's proof of residency in BC - BC Services card; BC ID card; BC Driver Licence; utility bill.
(5) INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS (currently attending a public school outside of Richmond or a private school within BC)Scan/photograph your valid BC Study Permit and email to rce@sd38.bc.ca.
(6) ABSENCESAbsences of more than three (3) classes are not permitted. Please email rce@sd38.bc.ca if student will be absent on the first day of summer school. Thereafter, absences can be communicated to the teacher or summer school office.
(7) WAITLISTSWaitlisted students/parents will be contacted by phone and/or email as space becomes available (until July 11). Take note of our telephone number 604-668-6123 in case we call. As our waitlists can be long, if we do not hear back within 24 hours, we will move on to the next waitlisted student. To withdraw from a waitlist, please call 604-668-6123 or email rce@sd38.bc.ca.
(8) WITHDRAWALSPlease email rce@sd38.bc.ca to withdraw from a course prior to the first day of class. Once classes have started, please contact your summer school office or teacher.
(9) REFUND OF COURSE FEE FOR WITHDRAWALSA 15% processing fee will be charged for withdrawals made before the start of the second class for fee-based courses and/or international students. No refunds will be issued after the start of the second class.
